Unemployment insurance in the state of Maryland provides benefits to legal residents of the state who are unemployed by no fault of their own and who are ready, willing and able to work, and actively seeking work.  Mdunemployment.com allows a user to perform a variety of activities related to unemployment in the state such as file a claim, reopen a claim, check on an application, download forms, file a biweekly continued claim to request payment and much more.  The site is available in both English and SPanish and provides helpful instructional videos on how to apply and get benefits.  It is recommended you file your claim over the Internet.  Please note that if you:

• You have worked and earned wages from a state other than Maryland in the last 18 months (regardless of where you live).
• You worked for the Federal Government in the last 18 months.
• You have worked for more than 3 employers in the last 18 months.
• You have filed for unemployment insurance in another state in the last 18 months.

You are not eligible to file a claim online.  If the above does not disqualify you please have the following information on hand when you begin the online claim process:

• Your Social Security Number and mailing address.
• A telephone number where you can be reached.
• The name, birth date and Social Security Number of all dependents under age 16.
• If you are not a citizen, proof of your alien status.
• The business name, address, and dates of employment for all employers within the last 18 months. A copy of your W-2 form may be helpful.
• If you seek work through a union, the hiring hall number is required.
• If you were in the military within the last 18 months, your DD214, Member 4.

If your are awarded benefits please sign up for the Maryland Unemployment Insurance Benefit Prepaid Debit Card is a Visa debit card issued through Citibank and thank us later.  This card allows a user to have their IU payments deposited on the card.  The card will work just like a debit card and carries no credit line.  The card is valid for a two-year period.
