Class Action Settlement News

American Idol is one of Televisions most popular shows and has produced talented singers that have gone on to become mega stars. Now they seem to have some legal trouble on their hands over a contest  promoted during broadcasts of American Idol from February 2007 through May 2007.  A class member is defined anyone who entered the American Idol Challenge via text and paid a premium text rate by your cell phone carrier.  Under the settlement terms you may be able to get reimbursed for those fees.  American Idol denies all wrong doing but has agreed to settle to avoid any further court cost.

The American Idol Text Promotion Class Action Lawsuit claims that Connecticut and California law were violated and the contest was nothing more than an illegal lottery.  The case is in the jurisdiction of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Western Division and is case number 2:07-cv-03916.

Important dates include:

November 21, 2011 the date that are exclusions and objections are due.
December 19, 2011 the date of the settlement fairness hearing

Claims can be made by one of the following three ways:

1) You can print out a blank claim form — which includes instructions on how to make a claim — from the form available on this website after the settlement is approved. (www.AmericanIdolChallengeSettlement.com). You can fill it out and mail it to the address indicated on the form.
2) You can submit a claim by filling out a claim form on this website and submitting it online once the settlement is approved.
3) You can call the toll-free number 877-264-4185 after the claims period starts, and provide your claim information over the telephone.
