A $3.8 million lawsuit settlement has been proposed to end the Anthem Dental Provider Class Action Lawsuit styled Rutt v. Anthem Health Plans, Inc..  The lawsuit claims that Anthem did not reimburse Dentist (that were a part of the Anthem’s provider network) the full amount of money due under the Provider Contracts.  The time frame of the allege actions took place between April 15, 1996 through April 14, 2002.  The lawsuit is in the jurisdiction of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.  Class members include any dentist who provided dental care to any individual enrolled in or covered by a Dental and/or Dental Plan issued or administered by Anthem Health Plans, Inc. during the time frame mentioned previous.  Anthem has denied all wrong doing in the case but has agreed to settle in order to avoid a lengthy drawn out trail.

A $5 or $40 cash settlement has been agreed upon in the HughesNet Satellite Internet Class Action Settlement entitled Walter, et al. v. Hughes Communications.  If you a former HughesNet satellite Internet subscriber read on as this lawsuit settlement could affect your rights.  The lawsuit makes claims that Hughes misrepresented the speed of the HughesNet internet service.  A similar lawsuit was recently settled involving AT&T.  Consumers are alleging that HughesNet did not provide the Internet speed as promised.  The lawsuit also involves customer complaints of early termination fees and violations of the company’s “Fair Access Policy”.  Under the settlement terms Hughes will be forced to change the way they advertised the speed of their Internet and update the Fair Access Policy Token policy

Class members of Walter, et al. v. Hughes Communications include anyone who between the dates of May 15, 2005 to March 2, 2012 subscribed to any of the following Hughes Consumer Service Plans: Home, Pro, Pro Plus, Small Office, Business Internet, Elite, ElitePlus, ElitePremium, Basic, Power 150 and Power 200.

The case will be under the jurisdiction of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California and will be ruled by the Honorable Judge Samuel Conti.  This is Case No. 09cv02136.  HughesNet denies any wrong doing in the case… no surprise there.  A settlement hearing will be held at the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, courtroom 1 – 17th Floor, 450 Golden Gate Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102 on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10am PT to determine of the settlement terms are fair.

Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup and Ally Financial have agreed to settlement terms under the National Mortgage Lawsuit Settlement (NationalMortgageSettlement.com).  The settlement terms provide $25 billion in relief to distressed borrowers and direct payments to states and the federal government.  This historic settlement dates back to the year 2008 and is the largest multi-state settlement since the since the 1998  Tobacco lawsuit settlement.  Besides the $25 billion dollar settlement the banks have also agreed to stop “robo-signing” and “dual-tracking”.  Robo signing is rushing homes into foreclosure based upon false documentation.  Dual Tracking is when a homeowners mortgage modifications is evaluated while initiating foreclosure proceedings are acted upon at the same time.  These are both methods that were previously used by banks to help their bottom line and harm the borrower.  You could be a part of the settlement if you are a  homeowner in one of the states who joined the settlement.  Due to the complex nature of this lawsuit borrowers will not know right away if they are eligible for the settlement.  If you were foreclosed on between January 1, 2008 and before Dec. 31, 2011 and are a state settlement member you will be notified by mail.

It is estimated that class members of the lawsuit will receive cash payments of $1,500 to $2,000.  Potential class members are encouraged to contact their lending institution about the National Mortgage Lawsuit.  This is just the beginning of the end, an end that could go on for years and years.  Please note that if you’re a borrower in the state of Oklahoma you are not eligible for this lawsuit settlement.  The state of Oklahoma elected not to join the settlement.  If you live in Oklahoma and have questions or concerns please contact your state Congressman or Senator.  Also it should be noted that loans issued by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac are not a part of the National Mortgage Lawsuit Settlement.

The Division of Motor Vehicles of the Utah State Tax Commission offers a nice, easy to use renewal online service free of charge to the people of Utah.  Please be aware that Campers cannot be renewed online and they must renew in person or by mail.  To renew in person please visit your local Utah Division of Motor Vehicles.  To start the auto renewal process please have your license plate and PIN number on hand.  These numbers can be located on your renewal notice you received by mail or by email.  Also please make sure that you have completed all the required safety and emission tests and have the certificates or the online renewal process will be rejected.  Finally make sure you have a credit card on hand as it will needed in order to make a payment.  There is no additional charges for using the online service versus doing the process in person.  Please note that you cannot start the renewal process any further than one month out from your expiration date.  If you attempt to renew before you are at 30 days or less left on your registration you will be rejected.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple claiming they violated state and federal anti-trust laws… Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave right now.  The lawsuit is entitled Apple iPod iTunes Antitrust Litigation and will be in the jurisdiction of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.  The lawsuit states that Apple knowingly created a Monopoly with the iTunes Music store.  We are told that Apple conducted software updates sometime in the year 2006 that prevented iPods from playing songs not purchased on iTunes.  This in turn made the price iPod prices higher than they should have been.  Like any good Big Business Apple denies all allegations of wrong doing and states that the 2006 updates were for the good of the product and customer and had no effect on the price of the iPod.
